Cathedral Caverns State Park, Alabama

This past Sunday Brentwood and I visited the nearby Cathedral Caverns State Park. Our tour commenced at noon and consisted of a little over a mile walk inside the cave that lasted an hour and a half. I had visited the caverns while in middle school but I had forgotten the majesty of this natural wonder.

Looking into the cave

I was surprised of the amount of visitors in our tour group, about 30. There were people from Canada and even Argentina. I'm glad this simple state park could bring people from all over to witness this natural beauty.

Admiring the tall formations

We saw many small bats clinging to the rocks hibernating. We also crossed over a river flowing through the cave. Then we entered into the wonderous stalagmite forest full of stalagmites and stalactites.

Successful trip! The cavern is memorizing and I recommend the tour to everyone. Since I recently visited Mammoth Cave it was nice to compare the two. Even though Mammoth Cave is the longest cave in the world, it doesn't compare to the formations I saw in Cathedral Caverns.
