San Kamphaeng, Thailand
We spent 3 weeks in San Kamphaeng, just outside of Chiang Mai, training at Santai Muay Thai Gym. Brentwood trained there before so it became a must-do while we were here. The gym also has housing available so we stayed right next door to the gym.
Muay Thai is a martial art of boxing and kicking. All the trainers were Thai but most of the people training were from all over the world, mostly from Australia. Some were beginners like me, some were just training for a month, and some were competing fighters.
Training consisted of:
6AM:4k run
6:30-8: shadowboxing, bagwork, abs, stretching
4PM: warm up, get ready
4:30-7: warm up exercises, shadowboxing, bagwork, 1-on-1 with trainer in ring for 20-25 minutes, bag work, 50 bag kicks each leg, 100 knees in bag, abs, and stretching. Grappling and kicking with pads included every so often.
We would train for 5 minutes with 1 minute off throughout practice.
We trained twice a day for the first three days and then they closed for the New Year. We had a nice 4 days to rest our sore and aching bodies. Then I got sick with a cold and was out for the week. I started back the last week but only trained in the evenings.
[Here's a link to a video of me training]
I have no experience with boxing or kickboxing so it was a whole new learning experience. I found that I don't have great balance. I am best at hitting with my elbows. I still need to work on my kick, but after 8 days of training I think I've got the basics down. I got bruises on my feet and ended up getting ankle wraps for support. I enjoyed the lessons and could see myself training more in the future.
And here's some more pictures of our time in San Kamphaeng not training.

It's hard to narrow down the pictures for this blog. I have sooo much more!
