Around Salida, Colorado

Downtown Salida

Salida Hill

The Earthship build is over and I'm headed out of Salida and Colorado covered in dirt and paint with amazing experiences that will stay with me forever.

I documented the Earthship build in the previous post so now I will share all the other activities I did while here. The first day off Kirstin and I headed to Twin Lakes to camp and hike up Mt Elbert, the tallest mountain in Colorado, and my first 14er.

The next weekend I volunteered at the Salida Stopover Gentlemen of the Road music festival. By volunteering I was able to get a much cheaper ticket and get paid. I worked at the box office on Friday for six hours.

Where I volunteered

Later that I night I met up with other Earthshippers and we enjoyed The Flaming Lips performance.

The next day I enjoyed the downtown festivities and watched the Tune-Yards, Jenny Lewis, and Mumford and Sons.

I'm so glad I was able to experience my first music festival here in Salida and see one of my favorite bands. I also camped on site with about 15,000 other people.

That weekend I also rafted down the Arkansas River with some fellow Earthshippers. We started in the middle of town and stopped just past the build site where everyone else was having a float party.

Here's a youtube link to a video tour of the Earthship. I can't wait to go to another Earthship build and see all my friends again!
