Washington D.C.

A few weeks ago I went to nearby D.C. to visit Bailey, a friend from Alabama Rowing, who is there for the summer. Two other rowing friends were able to come visit at the same time and we had a great little reunion!
We stayed with Bailey at the NYU dorm right in the middle of everything; we were a 10 minute walk from the White House. I hadn't been to D.C. in 16 years so I was ready to see the sights again. We stopped by the White House, sat and chatted by the reflecting pool, and had lunch at Capitol City Brewing Company so I could get my beer fix after being in the woods for 9 days.

Tuesday Katie's friend Corey gave us a tour of the Capitol. Then we rented bikes and went around to check out all the memorials. I was most excited to see the relatively new memorial for Martin Luther King, Jr.

The next day we toured the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and later the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. We took the metro to Georgetown and had dinner by the Potomac River.

We all parted ways on Thursday after a few days of catching up, seeing the sights, watching movies, and eating good food. I'm looking forward to seeing them all again soon in October for Katie's wedding!  While in D.C. I also got to meet up with my friend Sumedha, who I met last summer during my Earthship internship in New Mexico.

Next: Days off in Shenandoah National Park and adventuring on a via ferrata rock climbing course in West Virginia.
