Homer Spit, Alaska

Yesterday I ran my second Spit Run 10K. I have been meaning to train and run for the past month but I have been super busy. Therefore, I went into this race having not ran 6 miles since December and not having ran a mile in weeks. I didn't think I'd be able to finish, but once I passed the 30 minute mark I got in a groove and finished only 10 minutes slower than 2 years ago. Plus it was a gorgeous day- sunny and warm (60 is hot here). However, today I find it difficult to move because my legs are traumatized!

In other news, I have been working everyday, all day. I get to meet lots of international guests and practice my German (which I am learning on Duolingo-check it out!) I have also been out on the town with new friends in Homer.

A week ago I made a trip to Anchorage to pick up a film crew's 24 cases of camera equipment. They were due to arrive at 10:45pm then myself and our camp assistant Hayden would drive the 4 1/2 hr drive back to Homer that same night. However, only 4 of the 24 cases arrived so we waited and waited. The film crew went to their hotel while I hunkered down in the Anchorage airport at midnight waiting for the next flight. In the meantime I met a guy from the UK studying in Arizona and then a guy from Taiwan who will be working in Seward for the summer. It was nice meeting new people and telling them all about Alaska and where to go visit. The bags didn't arrive at 2AM so we slept in the van and bid our time driving around Anchorage at 5AM until the next flight at 8. Still no bags, the film crew flew to Homer and I waited till 10 and the bags finally arrived! Then I drove back to Homer with only an hour of sleep. So tired! So now we have two film crews out at camp and are sending daytrippers out for bear viewing everyday. The bears are grazing in the sedge meadows and clamming on the tidal flats now.
Also, Brentwood came into town a week ago and will be leaving shortly to compete in summer nationals in CA. Since he is working at forestry and I am working, we barely have time to see each other but it has been nice nevertheless.
