Head of the Bay
This past week I had a couple of days off work so I took advantage of the free time and scheduled some fun activities. On Wednesday I headed out East End Road to Trails End Horse Adventures. I had been wanting to get out to the head of the bay (Kachemak Bay), and what better way than go by horseback!
We drove the horses in a trailer to the End of the Road, past the Russian village, Voznesenka. Mark the cowboy, the owner of Trails End, paired me up with Hannah the horse.

Then we went 700 feet down on switchbacks to the beach. Once on the beach we passed another Russian village, Kachemak Selo.
Past the village we came across some cows and calves outside of the fence so we herded them through. Just like real cowboys!

Further down the tidal flats we crossed the Fox River. Here's a link to the youtube video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eqcqy8tKyzs&feature=youtu.be
After crossing the glacial river we stopped for lunch alongside the Sheep River.

After the lunch break we headed back, crossed the river again, and rode toward the brush trail. There were some mosquitoes, but it was nice to be in the bright green brush filled with elderberry bushes.
The only downside is that the two week good weather streak ended on Wednesday, and it rained for most of the trip. Oh well, it was still beautiful scenery. I wasn't too sore afterwards, and I would love to go out there again!
